4TB of data leak, one of the largest from a single source in history, has exposed the personal data of over 1.2billion people. Information that were exposed include names, phone numbers, email addresses and social media information.

The leak was discovered on October 16 by Bob Diachenko and Vinny Troia in an open Elasticsearch server that had 4 billion user accounts inside of over 4TB of data. The server is unprotected and did not have any means of authentication protecting it, which means that anybody can easily download it.

The data comes from People Data Lab and OxyData.io. The former is a California-based firm that sells data to advertisers for commercial purposes. This particular data set has 622million email addresses, 50 million unique phone numbers and details from different social media platforms.

The rest of the data comes from OxyData.io and contains details exclusively from LinkedIn.
